I really want to figure out what I don’t trust about Jack Atanoff. He’s just one of those people that is always going to be really popular, and I’m always going to wonder why and be jealous, because I’m not a “PEOPLE PERSON.”

But as I learnt from a 17-year-old Taylor Swift, and I’m paraphrasing slightly -

You just got to accept you are different, or you are going to get really dark and angry.

And I did.....but then I came out of it.....but what a waste of time. God.

These are mixed completely live and unplanned.

But I know right, you are thinking, who fucking cares about a DJ mix with Taylot Swift and Lana Del Rey. But I insist you lisen to it, even if you aren’t a big fan of either, because you will find it’s not necessarily your typical Lana and Taylor mix you would think it would be. I think when I do these mixes they tend to become conceptual rather than mixes based around loving the artist or not that I’m mixing. Of course, I do love the artists Im mixing, ha, but it becomes less about them and more about a story I’m trying to tell with their art. Like a collage of music, or like smapling. I used to be a very low grade sampling music maker, I’ll link you to my old bandcamp. I was called Foxy/Moron (there’s the slash again, I blame the indie music scene in Brisbane for these weird grammar beauty obsessions). I was heavily inspired by Sailor Moon, German sample artist Burial and film. Film used to much more inspiring to me than music, but that did change as I matured which is weird. Music has been my life since the change though, but maybe that’s shifting to thought now. I feel a shift.

Anyway, these mixses are always super fun to make and scary to make because you really got to be workign that Pre Frontal Cortex in decision making, fast and good decision making. Work that PFC. But it can be fun to pick the artists you choose to play around with and it never comes out as you thought it would which is cool. it’s a fun time and I insist you try it. It’s like Freud’s free associsation, but with music. You can learn about where your head is at. The fact that religionn comes into this mix is always where my head is at, for my entire life. Even though I’m an athesist I seem to get alot of inspiration whether negative or positive from religious symbolism, misogony and the Old Testament. I do also muse what I hate these days, or I have tended to in the past. So that could account for this inspiration lol.

But Lana and Taylor’s art is what I use to tell this stroy that has ended up being about religiion and misogony, and when you are sampling Taylor Swift you can’t avoid that misogony take, because it’s really all she ever talks about. She has struggled with this concept all her career, because I believe she was struck pretty harshly with misogony from a young age, entering into the music industry at some ridiculously young age of 12 or something? Crazy. She would have gone through things with men that I didn’t go through hevaily until I was 20. So that’s quite a headstart, no wonder she has such great philosophical insight on being “different” at such a young age. I wish someone had taught me that when I was 12. Consequently, there is a obligation to take these storyline paths when sampling her.

Lana Del Rey, in a totally opposite way took some what a similar route, except Lana tends to balance the responsibility between men and her more equally, if anything, she takes the blame completely which is the way it should be. We are all responisble for our own life choices. Lana takes the blame honestly and quite brutally at times, I believe her second album paints her as a really bad person that at the time I 100% related too. Which I at first tbh, resented her for. However, now I’am extremely grateful for Lana as my music mother, it’s a true blessing and life saver. Thank god for Lana Del Rey, I don’t know what I would have done without the lessons she has taught me through her music, they are always so multi-faceted and change as I change, and Video Games remains my favourite song ever written for these reasons. I rememeber the day I realised that song, and it was so profound, being around six years after I first heard it.

Lana Del Rey isn’t afriad of expressing the damage caused to her by the Patriarchy though, but she just shows she is just as evil as the Patirachy and therefore doesn’t play the victim probably ever. Which is a much more positive yet complex message to portray via song lyrics, even though her music seems more pessimissitic than Taylor’s, it just how that tale has to be told. In a honest way, which is Lana’s gift, story telling that many can relate to regarding a very complex institution.

These two artists may seem like a obvious COMBO to choose to mix, but I like obvious! As long as the artists are obvious great, but sometimes the most cliche artists are the most complex, which is why popular culture forever interests me. And Lana Del Rey and Taylor Swift are the greatest pop stars in the last ten years. Lana is the a more complex writer, but what Taylor lacks in complexity, her writing is just as good, Taylor is really good at getting hurt and dumpd in a relationship and just being so honest and wrting that she got hurt and she got dumped and fuck that hurt. Lol. And that isn’t easy. It takes alot of humility and maturity and enlightenment tbh. This is what most people love most about her. She is also a genius at manipulating the music industry to work in her favour.

(Most of the time she wins but not always. but at least she takes risks. She took on Kanye West and lost, but you got to give it to her, she had the balls to take him on in the first place at 19 years old lol. And we can’t say he didn’t deserve it ha).

She naviagtes through the music industry slaying the popstar game. Taylor, like Lana, is evil and ruthless, underneith it all. But in a way, being evil is necessary for a woman playing video games in a “man’s world.” As a woman you are an instant target when you step onto the Hollywood scene or American music industry spotlight. Your every move and performance is scrutinized to find inconsistencies that the patriarchy can spot, pull that thread and watch you come undone.

It’s very hard to beat them when they decide to do this to you, but where character and success is born, is from those who rise from the dead over and over and over again. Most women stay in the grave unfortunatly, and some literally end up in a grave R.I.P Whitney & Amy. However some, against all odds do come back, even under the most traumtic circumstances, and they just continue to make art aka Yoko Ono is the best and most extreme example of this. (<3 <3!! God.).

And now at the gates, guarding the souls that didn’t make it, you have to get past Taylor and Lana, and good luck because they aren’t going away anytime soon.

I will take you through now, how I believe they have got to this position. After studying their success for many years now, I have some pretty solid theories that both have some evidence to only hinted evidence and can go down seemingly unrelated rabbit holes sometimes like Jarad Leto, lol. None of this information is necessarily 100%, but the likelihood their success was born from something along these lines, is almost certain. There is more guessing coming from Lana’s side, because Taylor Swift is very open and obivous about her evil success building endeavours. Lana’s if true, seem alot more evil and revengeful though, but she does it so quietly and very fasciously. You would never notice if you weren’t observng the right facets of her life carefully.

I have this idea that Lana has some weird relationship with Harvey Weinstein where she knd of controls him a little, for some unknown reason. Maybe she is black mailing him? But I know she knew him well and if you a woman in Hollywood who is going to the French Canne Film Festival with Harvey when Lana was relitively unknown at this point, you are fucking him. No doubt. Done deal. Lana was fucking him. But as she sings in a song about him:

“You taste like the 4th of July, I love you and I don’t know why”

Also

“I guess you can call it textbook, I was looking for the father, I wanted back. So then I found him, in Brentwood.”

And of course, in the track now slashed from Lana’s live repotoire since #metoo, which Lana seemed to support very quietly and minimally (mostly to not offend or annoy anyone too badly being a person who was just finally getting things going in the world of pop with her Jack Atanoff Grammy award nominated (or winnner idk? pfft who cares, its the grammys lol, no one cares anymore) album called Norman Fucking Rockwell. Lana is no fool, she just stopped playing the song with the direct Harvey referenced lyrics and continuted promtoting her album. Which was the best choice.

I get the feeling from the progression of the Harvey themed tracks, which I thought stopped after Honeymoon, only to make a small but amazing come back in Textbook on Blue Banisters (what a song, and album, really it’s Blue Banisters and Honeymoon that never waiver from the top of my top Lana album’s list, top albums list full stop! Beautiful work). I get the feeling she not so crazy about him anymore though. But who is?

But that doesn’t change the fact that Lana has had her music in four major Hollywood films over the last 10 years, which has helped her career majorly. Especially her song for the Great Gatsby, Young & Beautiful, which can account for her success continung into the next phase of her career.

ALso, she recorded a version of Season of the witch for a television show’s theme song which aired for a few seasons as well exposing her music to a whole hosts of possible new fans. And she weirdly is placed with Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus, in a song for Charlie’s Angels, which is a very strange placement and doens’t actually really work but it was funny and again exposes her to both those artists fan bases and the film industry fan base once again keeping her relevant. Jail or not, Harvey or Harvey’s company, still own a big chunk of what’s left of Hollywood.

And he ain’t fucking Lana anymore, so why is she still getting these opportunities? These are things women in Hollywood would only get in the past, if they fucked Harvey.

I assume Lana isn’t anymore, yet she has to have some ties to Hollywood still. It’s a mystery, but there’s something evil going on on her part haha. And I love the mystery.

JARED LETO RANT, THIS IS STILL ON TOPIC EVEN THOUGH IT SEEMS LIKE A 180 DEGREE TURN AROUND, IT’S NOT IM NOT THAT ADHD

I don’t care what anyone says about Jared Leto, he’s been fucking someone to get those parts in his movies over the years, that’s obivous, case closed.

Are you with me? How does that mediocre talented ,,guy. Land roles like the his role in um….. American Psycho??!! Plus so many other iconic roles.

I got a story that’s not my story but seems Leto is brought up i’m going to tell it and I won’t say names. I had a very good friend who used to hang out with Leto in England, or more so, Leto used to hang onto a friend of mine, because he’s a fame whore and my friend was connected (connected! not was the guy, only connected) to this guy Jared Leto probably would fuck for a role in a good movie or to be in one of his movies 100%. So that was good enough for Leto. So he’s constantly hanging around my friend and fucking everyone in sight, but wow that’s surprising. My friend watched him have sex with another friend of theirs IN THE BACK OF A TAXI. That’s really gross, there is nothing sexy about that. NOTHING.

That’s my inside goss on Leto and it doesn’t make my dislike for him go away any. ha. It’s as1 empty as you would assume his life is. But he doesn’t think that, he’s proabbly happy. Dumb people are happy.

But lucky Leto has got less annoying with age, this is what he currently looks like…

Ok I intentionally found a irritating picture of him trying too hard at the MET Gala. However, he’s going for this really annoying jesus look at the moment.

In saying that, I watched an interview with him and that Australian Apple Music interviewer that every artist seems to be really comfortable with, even Kanye West was semi-comfortable with him, which is a big leap for Kanye and white reporters.

Justin Bieber wasn’t as comfortable with him, but that’s probably due to the hit of acid he did before they started filming. Well, so it would seem! Because, for the first 10 minutes of the interview Justin is doing this weird awkward sitting/standing thing. It looks like he’s not sure which he is going to do, stay or run away as far and as fast as possible, and is still deciding depeneding what this guy asks him in the first 2 or 3 questions. So Justin is in this sit/stand kind of pose for 10 minutes, landing him in the middle of the two somewhere which is SUPER AWKWARD!

Justin Bieber & Judah Smith. Judah Smith is fearued in the DJ Mix in the middle somewhere. The preacher soounding guy, you can't miss him, as recorded by Lana Del Rey on her phone. I couldn’t find any photos of Lana and Judah together. Hmmmmm. Ha!

What’s up with Bieber? I bet Judah Smtih has conservatived him with Bieber’s wife Hailey Baldwyn. Lol. Oh god I hope not, because I feel like the poor guy has been through enough and I think he’s cool.

BACK TO LETO

I was saying that in the Apple interview with Leto, I stopped hating leto as much, and I forgot about that until I just started hating on him just then out of habit and realised I don’t actually hate him as much anymore. He’s aiiiight, but that doesn’t change the fact that Jared definitely is a Hollywood whore! He’s not been in support of #metoo publicly either, and then he gets to do some out of the blue couture modelling gig for a Gucci campaign with old pal Lana Del Rey. Well, well, well, SEEMINGLY a weird match up but is it?

I could think of at least five alternative relevant stars who would have looked better in that campaign with Lana than Leto. But noooo, taxi fucker slut got it (he doesn’t even talk in My So called Life, he just acts tortured and “oh I’m so good-looking, what a drag,” face, you just want to slap. ha). I get the feeling Leto and Lana have known each other from the “Hollywood scene” for a while maybe? They are two of the main winners from it, if it is true though. (I have little doubt it is true). But, good for them! Jarad can join Taylor and Lana at the gates of hell in this case. The VAMPIRES, as Olivia Rodriguez calls them.

TAYLOR SWIFT VERSUS SCOOTA BRAUN/BRUN/BRON?

Anyway, BACK to the main babes. Scoota Braun is not one (is that his real name or stage name? Either way….ok “scoota” you fucking loser lol), is that how you even spell his last name? Sure Scoota has earnt Vampire status, but Taylor has driven a stake right through his heart haha. It’s now Scoota BURNT! Taylor SWift, my wo-man, is taking names and no man in sight is safe. And she doesn’t give a flying fuck. Scoota was one of her latest revenge targets, she’s said to have convinced Scoota’s wife to leave him and reported some alleged white collar crimes of his to the FBI as well. In regards to that FBI thing, she shouldn’t be going around snitching on people and then telling us she is a snitch! Lol. But no one seemed to have picked up on it of course, this girl gets away with everything ha. “But Taylor, it’s us verse them at this point, aiiight gurl, so chill on the relationship with the enemy.”

I think she might hate men a little? She has no problem seemingly going to town on them.

When she was dating Jake Gyllenhaul, he was said to specifically not want Taylor to write any songs about him or their relationship…….then he broke her heart. So of course, Taylor writes multiple songs about him, one in particualr called “All too well,” that interviewers have plaugued Jake about since it’s release. This annoying him slightly. But she doesn’t stop there.

Next, when he thought it was all over at “slightly annoying,” Taylor re-releases that same song years later, the first of “Taylor’s version” tracks to be released, but this time she ADDS LYRICS making it a ten minute anthem now! The lyrics get even more specific on details about the unspecified protgonist portrayed in the track. She has never explicity said its Jake. But it’s kind of obvious it’s Jake.

And then she doesn’t stop there, she makes a film inspired directly by the same song, we talking a pretty big production. A film with notable actors in it and Taylor herself making her directing debut for it. It is played in every short film festival around the world, and makes one of it’s first public appearances on Saturday Night Live, which is filmed in Jake’s home town New York. (The guy in the film looks like Jake, lol). Taylor making a huge epic anthem show out of it on SNL this night with the film playing behind her.

……..that’s what you get Jake for being a tool. lol.

And I don’t want to state the obvious but what relevant roles has he done since Donnie Darko (or since dating Taylor)? And who cares about that film anyway? Mental illness, pedos, portals and Drew Barrymore. It’s the makings of a semi-bad trip at best! (Good soundtrack though).

However, it’s not just men Taylor will come after if you cross her. Taylor has gone to town on Olivia Rodriguez lately, and she ain’t a man.

Olivia idolised Taylor until….."Blood sucker, fame fucker, bleeding me dry like a god damn vampire." - Olivia Rodriguez sings after a trial with Taylor Swift ends, leaving Olivia with a 10 million dollar bill to pay her idol. 

Taylor’s copyright lawsuit slapped Olivia hard both emotionally and financially after we are told Taylor is quoted saying “She text my boyfriend.” - Referring to Olivia. Uh oh.

That’s what you get for texting Taylor’s boyfriend and being a cute little hussy who writes Driver’s License, lol. Which is a very great pop track! When I first heard it, I didn’t love it straight away, I kind of had to understand what I was listening to at first in the back of that Uber. I would think, “no sad, intense, not the time.” Ha. It’s a very great break up/ heart break song, different from the any other, quite unique.

She killed it with her “Dan” friend she writes with (poor man’s Jack Atanoff). Then comes track Vampire, Olivia’s first single from the new second album release, and it’s pretty smart too. Obviously about Taylor Swift, but if the intention was to call Taylor out for being a bitch, it’s a weak intention baby girl, because…… WE KNOW SHE’S EVIL, AND WE LIKE IT.

So just stop copyrighting Taylor’s music and texting people’s boyfriends and you shall live another day. I can already hear from two tracks on the NEW Olviia album, there’s some obvious word copy catting again, also phrases and topics Taylor is famous for using on there too, on album Gutz. Watch it gurrrrrl, you know that band the Verve? No? Exactly! The Rolling Stones went to town on them, and they NEVER RECOVERED.

Back to the DJ mix; I’ve done so many Lana and Taylor mixes over the last few months, but I just did a new one yesterday, and it goes a bit long but because I’m telling a story this is why they tend to go at least 45 minutes.

I played several tracks from one of my favourites, this album. Shwocased in a past podcast. One of the best sampling bands out there, great to take LSD too, if you are into that.

I would love to play you music that you might not know, that you might fucking love. From mainstream jams, to hole in the wall still in their mother’s basement artists and anything in between.

I try to choose music that is not heard normally on mainstream anything, and if I do play mainstream music, it’s because it’s great, so I don’t care if it’s mainstream. To be honest, I love MAINSTREAM. lol. Pop music and culture are what I fucking live for (and hip hop, but my fave hip hop artists are pretty mainstream ha, at least half of them anyway).

I have to admit, I’m not always just sitting there DJing the whole time, I do walk off sometimes and stuff, so time can get away with me. That accounts for it’s lengthy length and slight volume differences, ha. BUT I GOT THINGS TO DO, AIIIght! Lol. I got a life.

MOST OF THE TIME, I’m sitting there DJing because I have to, to line the tracks up and assure smooth as possible transitions between tracks live, because I’m not using BPM sync fancy software, literally just have a microphone and a 303, which means i’m just hoping for the best that they line up right. That or, i’m quickly thinking which song is similar in beat to the one playing and hoping for the best with a little more confidence.

I don’t always get it right, but I get it pretty right a lot, and it’s a good feeling when you do get it right. A cheap thrill, and I live for them!

My new BPM line up trick is, and I’ve just discovered this, is that if you don’t get a good line up by chance ha, just stop one of the tracks, let the other roll and then start it again in a beat or two so it drops back in on a new count and boom, that can sometimes be the issue fixed, the track was just sitting on the wrong count. It works, it’s repeatable science. New fun manual BPM sync trick I learned.

BACK TO TAYLOR VERSES SCOOTA BRAUNZ

Oh what did Scoota Braun do to Taylor for her to snitch on him and make his wife leave him and re-record all her albums again??! Well, Scoota was apart of some scheme that record labels use to fuck artists over by wriitng in their contract that the masters of their tracks will be owned by the label and then the label sells them to someone once the contract ends. This “someone,” the artist thinks is going to be them for their six album multi platinum career, but it rarely ends like that.

The label sells it usually to an affiliate, not the artist, in a act of entrapping the artist so they don’t either A. Start their own label. B. Leave the label or, C. Leave the label for another label. Yes, control purposes.

And Scoota bought Taylor’s masters and then owned them and then wouldn’t sell them back to her when she asked, which is a fucking nasty thing to do. So this leads Taylor to endeavour to re-record all of her tracks so she does own them, which people weren’t sure she was actaully going to do, or be legally able to do. And I don’t think we know if she actually can still legally do it, but she has done it, so too late. NOW she does own all her music and tracks again! Which will de-value the original masters owned by Scoota!

And I see it like this, it’s like Dave Chappelle and his show that got stolen off him. It’e pretty much exactly the same situation.

Dave said once during a stand up, “do me a favour and just never watch that show ever again, because I get nothing for it airing and they shouldn’t be airing it in the first place without paying me.” (The Dave Chappelle Show). And with that said, I have NEVER and will never watch a episode of that show, and I haven’t even seen it, but it doesn’t matter. Dave Chappelle is a great Comedian but Im not, not watching it just for that reason, but mostly because what he is asking is reasonable from human to human, and it’s the right thing to do by the people against big corporations and their bullshit contracts. So, the same goes along with my suppport for Taylor verse Scoota of course all the way.

Her re-releases have also gained her new fans because she’s going back and re-releasing old albums again, consequently this means a new gen of Taylor fans get to re-hear the old tracks on heavy rotation on mainstream radio and jump on the Taylor train. She also followed these re-releases with a “eras” themed tour, landing her multi-billion dollars worth of sold out dates across the globe, of her 3.5 hour long/per show world tour event.

Also, this has led to her having a track from an album she released five years ago make it to the number one spot of the Billboard charts a month ago which is a first for a pop artist, and it wasn’t even number one the first time it came out!

She then has managed to gain spots in all top 10 positions on the same chart all at the one time! And it keeps coming, she has also been releasing unreleased tracks from each era with the re-recordings she puttting out, which are really great tracks. The 1989 unreleased tracks are perfect and I can’t believe she was never going to release them. Most of those tracks also hitting the charts in the top ten, some at number 1 again also. And last but probably not least, (theres still 3 more weeks of this year to go ha),

Taylor finishes up as Time Magazine’s human of the year! Phew.

And at the end of this era, stand Lana and Taylor.

Hand in hand, very close friends apparently for years, with Lana being a ghost writer for Taylor apparently since Reputation 2015ish. Ghost writer can mean Taylor has borrowed themes from Lana, words, ideas, or just bought a track off Lana and then did a Taylor version of it. I think that’s evident in many tracks of Taylor’s.

The first two poems I play in my mix, are both poems the singers have released, first up is Lana’s Ride Poem, and then I cut in with what I think is Taylor’s version of this poem, that she released only as a part of her reputation tour, that she would play half time to have a break. I tried to keep that theme going, Lana song and Taylor’s version, but its a little hard when you have no seconds to think, so this is what naturally came out and it is a story which is why it’s more than just a DJ mix with Taylor and Lana songs, its art.
